Is my image sent to a server?
Yes — background removal requires AI processing which happens on remove.bg's secure servers. Your image is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection, processed, and the result is returned to you. Remove.bg does not store your images permanently. All other tools on this site (compress, resize, convert) work entirely in your browser with no uploads.
What types of images work best?
The AI works best with clear subjects against distinct backgrounds — people, portraits, products, animals, cars, and objects. It may struggle with very complex backgrounds, transparent objects like glass, or hair with very fine detail.
What format is the output?
The result is always a PNG file with a transparent background. PNG is the only format that supports full transparency. You can optionally choose a solid background color before downloading if you prefer a non-transparent result.
Is there a limit on how many images I can process?
The free tier allows up to 50 background removals per month. This resets at the beginning of each month. For higher volume needs, paid plans are available at remove.bg.
